Investor's Guide to Sustainable Tourism is tool of "special importance" for tourism growth in the Azores, says Regional Director

The Regional Director for Tourism stated in Ponta Delgada that the Investor's Guide to Sustainable Tourism is a tool of "special importance" for the Azores tourism strategy, which has consolidated its "increasingly structuring" growth in the regional economy.

Cíntia Martins spoke at the presentation of the book, noting that this is "a working and consultation tool intended to support potential investors in the decision-making process and possibly stimulating new investments, with special focus on the USA, as it essentially aimed at this market.

"This market has long been historically linked to our archipelago. It is of particular importance for tourism not only due to the flows annually generated by the diaspora communities, but also due to its potential to generate new business opportunities and new flows beyond the diaspora, given the population size and geographical proximity to the archipelago," added the government official.

In her speech, the Regional Director stressed that "it is never too much to rethink and plan tourism, because the increasingly rapid dynamics of the tourism process in its various fields requires a continuous adjustment towards the sustainability of our tourist destination, especially our future sustainability."

"In the Region, we have been guided by a model of sustainable development designed to foster economic growth, seizing the potential of natural, heritage and cultural resources with a view to balanced development and preservation and to the recovery and reuse of these resources," stressed Cíntia Martins.

"Now, more than ever, we must be aware that good results demand our best. The success of tourism is increasingly dependent on the planning of supply and demand as well as on the positioning and diversification of markets," said the government official.

Cíntia Martins also stressed the ongoing need for proactive action "to ensure that the momentum that has brought us here will take us even further" by promoting a "tourism dynamics that should always be strategically planned and based on strategies adapted to the new times and to the new dynamics of supply and demand."
