Cooperation with Association of Energy and Environment Agencies promotes energy efficiency in the Azores, says Regional Director

The Regional Director for Energy stated in Lisbon that the collaboration protocol signed today between the Regional Government and the Association of Energy and Environment Agencies (RNAE) aims to promote energy efficiency in the archipelago.

Andreia Carreiro pointed out that the protocol presents "specific goals in terms of promoting energy efficiency, namely through a behavioural change in the rational use of energy that allows a reduction of the energy bill and a higher disposable income for families."

"The Azores do not have an energy agency and, in this context, the Regional Directorate for Energy has assumed this role, which is now reinforced and acknowledged by RNAE," said the Regional Director. In this regard, she added that the document now signed provides for "several initiatives that foresee the development of projects for training and awareness-raising session in energy-related matters."

The Regional Directorate for Energy, in partnership with RNAE, is already promoting several initiatives in the Azores, such as the "PIEE IPSS - Integrated Energy Efficiency Programme for Private Social Solidarity Institutions” and the "Efficient Villages - Together for Energy Efficiency."

"These actions intend to involve diverse strategic sectors in order to qualify the human resources that are an added value to their institutions in terms of energy rationalisation and saving," said Andreia Carreiro.

"We have been working to strengthen and broaden our partnerships so that we may bring the benefits in the area of energy to the Azorean population, thus fostering the socio-economic cohesion of the Azores," added the government official.

In this regard, he stressed that the Regional Directorate for Energy, through various partnerships established at national and European level, intends to "implement actions promoting the sustained and decarbonised development of the Region, with direct benefits in the quality of life of the Azoreans."
