The “SOS Cagarro 2010” (SOS Corey’s Shearwater 2010) Campaign starts on Friday. This initiative aims to alert the population for the need to preserve this protected species which nests in the Azores.
The campaign will run until 15 November, which coincides with the departure of young Cory’s Shearwaters from their nests to the first transoceanic flight.
For this reason, the campaign was organised with the purposing of involving the Azorean population in the rescue of these young birds that are found along the roads.
The official start of the “SOS Cagarro 2010” will take place at the S. Roque do Pico Secondary School on Friday at 10:30 AM in a session to be attended by Paulo Henrique Silva and Paulo Freitas, nature watchers, and by Carla Silva, technician from Pico Natural Park.
