Under the PCT MAC programme, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and the Sea, through the Regional Directorate for the Environment, established a partnership with the Agencia de Protección del Medio Urbano y Natural of the Canary Islands (Agency for the Protection of Urban and Natural Environment) in the SIGESTEIN project.

Regarding the Azores, this project aims to create an interactive portal for citizens, companies and public entities, provide environmental information, especially on effective waste management, thus becoming the reference information centre in the Azores.

All citizens are invited to participate in the creation of this tool and, for that reason; a form to submit suggestions on the content and functionalities of this website was already made available.  Justo go to servicos.sram.azores.gov.pt/doit/ and collaborate.

After the public presentation of Sigestein on Faial on December 2009 and the organisation of the first meeting in Lisbon in January this year, the second meeting will be held in the Canary Islands in early May.

The second meeting will be an opportunity to become better acquainted with the work developed by this Outermost Region in the management of urban waste, construction and demolition waste, packaging waste, port waste, amongst others.
