Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture participates in the 3rd International Conference of the Alliance of World Heritage Cultural Landscapes
The 3rd International Conference of the Alliance of UNESCO Cultural Landscapes on the theme “Use and Management of Water in World Heritage Cultural Landscapes” is in Alhambra, Granada (Spain). The Azores are represented at the event by the Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture. On the first day of the conference, the Director of the Vineyard Landscape took the opportunity to present the unique UNESCO Cultural Landscape in the Azores to the representatives of various countries and to the UNESCO bodies.
This is another opportunity for the international promotion of the Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture, at the highest international level, in a work group that aims to develop networking skills and to raise the awareness for the fact that cultural landscapes are evolutionary realities and not static. Moreover, this group intends to draw attention to the need for the participation of different decision-making levels as well as for the involvement of the communities belonging to these world heritage cultural landscapes.
The conference is also an opportunity to attract new partners for the Alliance as it is only represented by the promoter group, of which Sintra is the only one of the three possible national representatives.
