Government of the Azores closes Environmental Centres and Natural Monuments until March 31

The Government of the Azores has determined that all Environmental Centres and Natural Monuments in the Region are closed to the public from today until March 31.

This measure falls within the permanent monitoring of the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic under the state of alert already declared for the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

The network of Azores Environmental Centres is composed of twenty infrastructures on all islands, namely the Boqueirão Environmental Interpretation Centre on Flores Island, the Wild Birds Interpretation Centre on Corvo Island, the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre, the Faial Botanical Garden, the Monte da Guia Complex (Dabney House and Live Fish Station/Porto Pim Aquarium), the Landscape of Pico Island Vineyard Culture Interpretation Centre, the Gruta das Torres Visitors Centre, the Mountain House and the House of Volcanoes.

This network also includes the Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo Interpretation Centre, the House of São Jorge Park, the Furna do Enxofre Visitors Centre, the Serra de Santa Bárbara Interpretation Centre, the Angra do Heroísmo Park Shop, the Furnas Monitoring and Research Centre, the Pineapple Culture Interpretation Centre, the Caldeira Velha Interpretation Centre, the Sete Cidades Lake Park Shop, the House of Fossils and the Dalberto Pombo Environmental Interpretation Centre.

Moreover, the natural monuments of Algar do Carvão on Terceira Island, Gruta do Carvão on São Miguel Island and Porto Pim Whale Factory on Faial Island are also closed to visitors in the same period of time.

All activities included in the Open Park and School Park programmes were postponed on all islands to a date after March 31.
