Six environmental trails on Faial Island are now ready to welcome visitors – Descida da Caldeira, Perímetro da Caldeira, Levadas, Capelo-Capelinhos, Capelinhos Volcano and 10 Volcanoes. Only in the case of the Descida da Caldeira trail, visitors must be accompanied by a Guide from the Island Natural Park. However, the safety and information level is higher when visitors are accompanied by a certified guide.
The Ten Volcanoes trail is the largest pedestrian trail of the Azores with a total extension of 27 km, taking 9 hours to be covered. Its creation was born of a challenged launched by tourists, experts on the subject, who defended the creation of longer routes with a higher level of difficulty.
There are predefined timetables for the routes that include Park Guides, such as Descida da Caldeira and Capelinhos Volcano. Visitors may also request a Guide for other trail at any time upon request at the Park House with a day in advance.
Tickets for guided tours may be acquired at the Park House, located at the foot of Monte da Guia. The price will be always the same whether the group is composed by one person or twelve people (the maximum of visitors allowed per group). Travel agencies and nature-tourism companies may benefit from special discounts.
