Courses for Natural Park Guides cover all islands

The Regional Secretariat for Energy, Environment and Tourism, through the Regional Directorate for the Environment, promotes courses for Natural Park Guides on the islands of Santa Maria, Flores and Corvo during the month of March. The initiative intends the enhance the knowledge on protected areas and services provided by professionals who guide groups of visitors to these areas.
 
With a registration open until February 2, these courses will certify professionals to accompany and guide groups of people to protected areas as well as to the environmental and cultural interpretation of the surrounding environment. They were created following the efforts undertaken to improve the quality of services provided by the Azores Natural Parks.
 
Moreover, the courses for Azores Natural Park Guides not only comprise the knowledge on natural and historical-cultural heritage, but also on other aspects such as communication, life-saving and rescue techniques, tourism concepts and filed guidance.
 
Improving the qualification of human resources of regional active tourism companies is also an important goal that will benefit the development of sustainable nature tourism.
 
These 117-hour courses are developed under a partnership between the Regional Directorate for the Environment and the Azores Tourism Association, with the collaboration of the Chamber of Commerce of Angra do Heroísmo. They are certified by the Regional Directorate for Employment and Vocational Training.
 
If the limit of vacancies is exceeded, applicants will be selected. Priority will be awarded to those working in tourism companies or in the process of setting up a company.
