Requalification of the commercial port of São Roque do Pico will begin in the next legislature
The regional secretary for the Economy affirmed today, in the island of Pico, that the idea base of the requalification plan of the port of São Roque consists, fundamentally, of the separation of the commercial zone (loads and containers) of that of the passengers and of their terminal, without forgetting the creation of a nautical recreation nucleus.
Duarte Ponte, who was speaking in the ceremony of presentation of the project of requalification of that port infrastructure, which represents a public investment of the Government of the Azores of 20 million euros, added that the creation of a marina is included in the government objective in endowing the island of Pico with three nautical recreation nucleuses (one of which already working in the town of Lajes), completing a total of nearly two hundred and ten posts of mooring meant for the recreation navigation.
The secretary for the Economy considered that the expected interventions, such as the construction of the passengers' terminal and the improvements in the head of the jetty, constitute the best solutions and guaranteed that, in the phase of public appreciation of the project, all the suggestions will be welcome in a perspective of contributing to its improvement.
On the subject of scheduling of the work, Duarte Ponte confirmed that it is a public undertaking to be ended in the course of the next legislature.
