The election and presentation of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal will be held in the Azores, announced the New 7 Wonders Portugal in Portimão on Wednesday night. The New 7 Wonders Portugal is in charge of this initiative in a joint partnership with the Government of the Azores and with the RTP (National TV Broadcast).

The announcement was made at the end of the show that elected the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Origin in the World, which took place in Portimão and which was broadcast by RTP. With this initiative, the New 7 Wonders Portugal intends to elect the most beautiful landscapes of Mainland Portugal, as well as of Madeira and the Azores.

According to the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, the choice of the Azores for the organisation of the presentation ceremony of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal is the result of the work that has been developed under the strategy to promote the Region, thus privileging “the opportunities to reinforce the image of the Azores as a privilege destination to be in contact with Nature or with environmental quality.

For the Regional Secretary, this initiative is “an excellent opportunity to promote the Azores in our main tourist market.

“Therefore, it is with great satisfaction that the Government of the Azores is associated to this initiative which will enhance the visibility of our Region,” stated Vasco Cordeiro.

The election of the Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal will take place during 2010.
