National Geographic offprint highlights the Azorean environmental and heritage richness

The publication by the National Geographic magazine in its May 2009 issue of an offprint dedicated to the to the two Azorean areas which were classified as World Heritage Sites, the city of Angra do Heroísmo and the Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture, represents “the recognition of the heritage and environmental richness of the Azores” and the “work that has been developed in the Region regarding their preservation.”
The belief of the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, was conveyed in Angra do Heroísmo yesterday night at the public presentation session of the work published by the National Geographic.
On the occasion, the Secretary also pointed out the contribution given by the National Geographic regarding the promotion of the Region abroad, emphasising that the classification of these two areas as World Heritage Sites has become a symbol of the Azores abroad and a source of pride for all Azoreans.
For the Secretary for the Economy, “this work recognises not only the historical past of these sites, but also their present qualities and the work which has been developed so that they increasingly become a reference for the future.”
