Government and hoteliers in joint action to promote the Azores destination during low season
The Government of the Azores confirmed its “full availability” to support a project developed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Azores regarding the organisation of a campaign addressed at the national market that aims to subsidise the airfares of the tourists that stay in the Azores for over five nights during low season.
The project was presented on Friday morning to the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, by the president of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Azores, Sandro Paím, during a meeting that was attended by some hoteliers. The Regional Secretary assured the Government’s support to this initiative through the organisation of a promotional campaign in the national market.
For Vasco Cordeiro, this is “a legitimate and useful contribution to Tourism in the Azores,” being even more important because it represents “a joint effort between all agents in the sector.” As I have said on some occasions, if one fulfils its role, public and private entities, the outcome will be positive.”
According to the Regional Secretary for the Economy, the project “meets all conditions to achieve success because it fulfils the needs of the sector as well as of the message we intend to pass on.”
Being an important contribution, considered the Regional Secretary for the Economy, this is not the solution for the challenges we face in the regional tourism sector. Nonetheless, he stressed that “measures like these, and the entrepreneurship capacity of our hoteliers, demonstrate that we are able to overcome, step by step, these challenges.”
Therefore, Vasco Cordeiro assured “the full commitment of the Azorean Government in whatever necessary to move this project ahead.”
