Azores present investment opportunities in Canada

The Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, will participates in a meeting with business people from Winnipeg, Canada, next week to present the investment opportunities of the Azores in a initiative similar to the ones recently held in Massachusetts and Galicia in August and October, respectively.
This event aims to raise awareness for the main incentives provided by the Region to attract foreign investment, as well as for the priority areas such as Tourism, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Environment and Energy, and Research and Technological Development, among others.
For the Regional Secretary for the Economy, who will be accompanied by the chairman of the Agency for Investment Promotion in the Azores (APIA), Gualter Couto, the organisation of type of events “is intended to demonstrate the existence of great business opportunities in the Azores that can be exploited by all those who wish to invest in the Region.”
Before the presentation in Winnipeg, the APIA will also hold a session to disseminate investment opportunities in the Azores to take place in Toronto next Friday.
This initiative will count upon the participation 40 Canadian and Portuguese-descendant businesspeople; it aims to promote and reinforce the economic and institutional cooperation among the Azorean communities as well as to promote the Azores, their products and services in their export markets, thus encouraging the internationalisation.
With these initiatives, the Agency will not only reinforce its network of contacts at an international level, but also enhance a platform to attract Canadian investment to the Azores.
Therefore, this is an opportunity to disseminate the “mechanisms that facilitate these same investments,” stated the Regional Secretary for the Economy.
The regional incentive scheme for investments has been “highly praised by the businesspeople who have become acquainted with it; for that reason, these occasions are always another opportunity to seek areas where these investments may be carried out.”
According to the Regional Secretary for the Economy, “there is an increasing awareness that the Azores have been evolving from a region with enormous development constraints to a modern region, which in recent years has become a reference in different areas of investment at a national and European level.”
Moreover, Vasco Cordeiro also reminded the existence of “strong ties between these regions that were the destination of our emigrants and the Azores, not only in traditional areas, but also in investment.”
Hence, he stressed, “there is a set of economic projects that may be developed between the Azores and the places where your emigrants have settled, which will boost more development for both parties.”
This is the second presentation on investment opportunities in the Azores to Canadian businesspeople, following a similar initiative undertaken by the Chairman of APIA in Toronto.
The Regional Secretary for the Economy will travel to Canada to attend the 10th Cultural Week of the House of the Azores of Winnipeg to be held next week. Vasco Cordeiro will also represent the President of the Government in the celebrations of 25th Anniversary of the House of the Azores of Ontario.
