With regard to visit to Fall River concluded on Monday, the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, considered that “with all examples of success, achieved through hard work, the emigrants are an essential tool for the affirmation of the Azores in the host communities, such as the case of the USA.”
Moreover, Vasco Cordeiro considered that this visit, which took place in the context of an invitation to participate in the Holy Spirit Festivities in New England, has also allowed to “perceive the enormous potential of Azorean emigrants, not only by their growing presence and the political relevance in the host communities, but also by their role of ambassadors of the Azores in the world.”
“It is natural that the image of the Azores evoked by emigrants is the one that dates back to the time when they had to leave their land to search for better living conditions in other places. But as they visit us and become aware of the rapid development we have achieved, especially over the last years, this image will be transformed,” stated the Regional Secretary for the Economy.
“This change in the image of the Azores, disseminating a modern Region, fully integrated in the European Union and provided with functional infrastructures is also essential for the promotion of the Azores abroad,” concluded Vasco Cordeiro.
