Regional Government promotes 8th International Meeting of Social Intervention Organisations

The Government of the Azores promotes the 8th International Meeting of Social Intervention Organisations in Ponta Delgada Friday and Saturday. The event brings together representatives of about two dozen institutions from the United States, Canada, Bermuda and the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

This meeting between institutions of the International Network of Social Intervention Organisations, a platform coordinated and supported by the Regional Directorate for Communities, aims to create a space for reflection and dialogue on social issues of emigrant communities, returning emigrants and immigrants living in the Azores. It aims to provide participants with an opportunity to analyse good practices and establishing partnerships for the development of new projects.

Under this meeting, the seminar "Social Intervention: skills, knowledge and practices" will be held at the auditorium of the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory Monday, November 16. The event will be attended by representatives of the International Meeting of Social Intervention Organisations.

In this seminar, Helena Neves Almeida, professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra, will present the conference "Pathways to the construction of social alternatives: questioning", followed by several panel discussions on social intervention, youth at risk, care and well-being of the elderly, mobility and integration in society.

Both initiatives are organised by the Cabinet of the Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations, through the Regional Directorate for Communities, in partnership with the Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity. They are intended to address the social challenges the Azores communities are facing as well as the actions developed by social intervention institutions and their dynamics, exchanges and work perspectives.

In addition to the working sessions and the workshop, participants in the 8th International Meeting of Social Intervention Organisations will have the opportunity to visit various institutions and social support projects on the island of São Miguel, including the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Home in Lagoa, the Association for the Promotion of Youth at Risk - Terra Jovem Project in Ribeira Grande, and Norte Crescente - Local Development Association in Ponta Delgada.
