"I A.M." project travels to the nine islands of the Azores

The "I A.M." project, included in the "European Citizenship - Europe for Azoreans" programme, started today on Terceira Island, where it travel to 32 elementary schools, covering about 700 4th form students.

At the island's educational establishments, the initiative will carried out by Valter Peres, amateur actor and storyteller, who uses oral interaction and various dynamics to explain concepts such as democracy, citizenship or quality. Each session will be concluded with a game involving participants.

Promoted by the Cabinet of the Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations, this initiative is covering all the islands of the Azores, having started in the Central Group with Graciosa Island in Western Group with Flores Island.

For Western and Central groups, with the exception of Terceira Island, the initiative involved the creation of educational resources so that the project may travel to different islands, namely a suitcase, a story carpet where four characters talk about some concepts related to citizenship European in a narrative built for this purpose, and a Game of Goose; the latter aim to stimulate the debate among team members.

In addition, the Association of Education for the Arts - Solidaried'Arte also presents a puppet theatre at some schools.

The development of this project, promoted by three different teams and with some different methodologies to reach the different 4th form classes at regional schools, took into consideration the fact that it should be homogeneous so all narratives would have the same four characters.

In the Eastern Group, the sessions will continue to be held at schools on São Miguel during the month of June. They will also take place on Santa Maria until the end of the school year.

Promoted by the Government of the Azores, the "I A.M." project is one of the three actions of "Europe in School" axis, which falls within the "European Citizenship - Europe for the Azoreans" programme. It is primarily intended to teach, in a playful and educational manner, European topics to 4th form students, covering 140 educational institutions in the Region and more than 3,000 students.
