The Under Secretary for European Affairs and external Cooperation stated today that “the promotion in training and in the organisation of top events is integrated in a governmental strategic purpose that aims to put the Azores on the world map of high quality courses, knowledge acquisition and qualification.
Rodrigo Oliveira spoke at the opening session of the course on “Leadership for the 21st Century” organised by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Labour and Social Solidarity and by the Luso-American Foundation . Conducted by the Harvard Kennedy School, this course contains an intensive programme addressed at the executives of the public and private sector that intends to deepen the knowledge on the personal aspects of leadership and on the reinforcement of leadership skills.
“With regard to the Azores, the autonomic system and the existence of a large common market in the European Union has brought an increased responsibility to top managers and leaders, firstly, in the public management of our competences and, secondly, in the competiveness of the business sector. These are the aspects in which we seek to achieve excellence of our performance,” stated the Regional Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation.
The course on “Leadership for the 21st Century” is lectured by a team of teachers of the prestigious Harvard University led by Professor Marty Linsky, counting upon the presence of 37 participants from the Azores, Madeira and Mainland Portugal. This event takes place at the Casino Terra Nostra in Furnas on São Miguel Island until October 30.
This is the second course that the Harvard University promotes in Europe after the previous course on “Leadership for the 21st Century” held in Angra do Heroísmo last year.
