Finalists of the multimedia contest “Azores, where Europe goes further” selected

The Government of the Azores has announced the finalists of the contest on multimedia works titled “Azores, where Europe goes further” (Açores, onde a Europa chega mais longe), an initiative that integrates the programme of the European Region of the year 2010.
Under this contest addressed at Azorean secondary school students, 26 teams have enrolled and 18 works have been submitted, which were subsequently evaluated by a jury composed by journalist Rui Goulart and image reporter Alexandre Jesus, from RTP-Açores, as well as by members of the Offices of the Regional Secretary of the Presidency and of the Regional Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation.
The following teams have been selected: “Eurocorvos” from the Mouzinho da Silveira Basic Education School;  “Bordões” from the Flores Basic Education and Secondary School; “AMT” from the Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School; “Vulcões” from the São Roque do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School; “Ilhéus de Restinga” from the Graciosa Basic Education and Secondary School; “FSP Euro Team” from the Calheta de São Jorge Basic Education and Secondary School; “As Ultraperiféricas” from the Nordeste Basic Education and Secondary School and “As Cagarras” from the Santa Maria Basic Education and Secondary School.
The finalist teams, composed by 3 students, will now participate in the celebration of Europe Day on May 6 at the Flores Basic Education and Secondary School, where the best multimedia works will be announced and awarded.
The members of the selected teams also will also participate in the “Europe Quiz” contest, whose winners will be awarded a trip to Brussels which includes visits to EU institutions and to the most emblematic venues of the policy-making centres in Europe. Prizes will be awarded to the second and third places and all final participants will receive gifts.
With this initiative, integrated in the European Region of the Year 2010, the Government of the Azores aims to contribute to a wider dissemination of the themes concerning the European Union, to stimulate the interest and participation of Azorean students in activities related to these issues and to boost the creativity through the use of the new audiovisual and communication media.
Final results and other information may be consulted on the page of the Office of the Regional Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation at the Portal of the Government of the Azores www.azores.gov.pt.
