On Friday, the Sub-secretary of the Regional Directorate for European Affairs and External Cooperation, Rodrigo Oliveira, will participate in the meeting of the Political Bureau of the Conference of European Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), an intergovernmental institution that gathers approximately 160 coastal and insular regions from 28 European countries.
The higher decision-making body of CPMR deals with matters pertaining to the fundamental orientations of the Conference. Its members are elected from one region per country and from ultra-peripheral regions (UPR).
The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Carlos César, was elected to the position of representative of the UPR in the Political Bureau of the said Conference at the last General Assembly of CPMR, which took place in Baiona, France, in October 2008.
Friday’s meeting addressed the EU’s Green Book recommendations regarding Territorial Cohesion, Fisheries, European Maritime Strategy as well as other measures to be implemented by CPMR during 2009.
