Azorean Gastronomic Festival in Brasilia

Brasilia, the capital of the Federative Republic of Brazil, hosted the First Festival of Azorean Gastronomy, held between February 2 and 4, 2006.

This initiative was organized by the Regional Department for the Communities, from the Presidency of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, in partnership with Camões Institute and the Portuguese Embassy in Brasilia.

This event was attended by an Azorean chef, who presented several traditional Azorean dishes, such as “Atum com batata doce” (tuna fish with sweet potatoes), “Polvo com bolo de milho e batata nova” (octopus with corn cake and potatoes), “Bife à micaelense” (S. Miguel style steak) and “Alcatra com massa sovada” (stewed rump with sweet bread), and the traditional desserts “Pudim de chá” (Tea pudding) and “Ovos pardos” (a mixture of boiled egg yolk and sugar, sprinkled with cinnamon).

The Regional Department for Commerce, Industry and Energy, from the Government of the Azores, offered a variety of different drinks, typical of the Azorean archipelago.

All guests, from different areas such as politics and journalism, had the opportunity of witnessing the Azorean gastronomic reality.
