The Sixth Assembly of the World Council of Casas dos Açores organized by Casa dos Açores in Algarve in partnership with the Regional Department for the Communities joined 12 Casas dos Açores and the “Núcleo Ilhas de Bruma” from the University of Aveiro, on the islands of S. Miguel and Terceira, between June 7 and 11, 2003.

Objectives:

-         Establish a number of actions aiming at the reunion of the Azorean Communities;

-         Introduce the Azores and its culture abroad;

-         Defend the interests of the Azores, the Azoreans and the Azorean descendants;

-         Become a bond between the Azores and its communities abroad.

Conclusions:

This meeting was attended by Casas dos Açores from Quebec, Toronto, Winnipeg, New England, Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro, S. Paulo, Lisbon, North, Algarve and also by the “Núcleo Ilhas de Bruma” from Aveiro.

The participants approved several important measures:

-         The application of Casa dos Açores from Rio Grande do Sul, thus becoming the forth Casa Açoriana in Brazil;

-         The introduction of the group Pro Casas dos Açores North American Pacific;

-         The necessity of regular reunions between the several Casas dos Açores as a way of encouraging the interchange of these institutions;

-         The need of the social leaders commission last more than two years, in order to guarantee the continuity and solidity of their activities;

-         The creation of an electronic newspaper entitled “Jornal do Conselho Mundial das Casas dos Açores” whose editorial office, placed in Lisbon, will consist of Casas dos Açores from Lisbon, Porto and Algarve.

Each edition must include four articles about four Casas from CMCA, beginning with the most recent Casas, and a space dedicated to the activities of other institutions.

The Seventh Assembly of the World Council of Casas dos Açores will take place next year, under the organization of Casa dos Açores in Toronto, Canada.
