Government of the Azores promotes Meeting of Media Bodies

 
The Government of the Azores promotes the Meeting of Media Bodies of the Diaspora promotes between April 22 and 26 on the islands of Faial, Pico and São Jorge to discuss their current and future challenges.
 
The official opening of the meeting, which involves the participation of 38 media bodies from Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, United States and Mainland Portugal, takes place Friday, April 22, at the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre on Faial at 10 AM. It includes a lecture delivered by José Lopes de Araújo, Institutional and Archive Director of RTP, titled "The Diaspora and the Media."
 
This initiative, promoted by the Presidency of the Government of the Azores, will also involve the participation of regional media bodies on the first day. It includes a joint working session moderated by Vamberto Freitas, professor at the University of the Azores, providing an open space to promote the discussion on the challenges of media as well as the strengthening of ties between media bodies from both sides of the Atlantic.
 
The "Meeting of Media Bodies of the Diaspora: Current and Future Challenges" aims to stimulate the reflection and debate on topics of bilingualism and new communication platforms, while disseminating among participants the Azores of today in various dimensions and activity sectors.
 
Moreover, there will be a  working sessions on the islands of Faial, Pico and São Jorge with the aim of promoting
the knowledge of several places and encouraging discussion and sharing among participants. These sessions will cover diverse topics, such as the appreciation of the Azores Sea at a session to be held at the Whale Factory in Horta, the Azores as a tourist destination to take place at Horta Maritime Terminal or the archipelago's environmental policies, whose debate will be held at "Casa da Montanha" (Mountain House) in Madalena.
 
In addition to the working sessions, participants in this meeting will have the opportunity to make several visits on the three "Triangle" islands, including the Union of Dairy Agricultural Cooperatives of São Jorge and Santa Catarina Cannery.
 
This meeting of media bodies of the Diaspora is organised by the Cabinet of the Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations, through the Regional Directorate for Communities, with the partnership of the Cabinet of the Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs.
