Government of the Azores promotes intercultural integration

The Government of the Azores has granted CRESAÇOR – Community Centre for Immigrant Support (CCAI) a financial support in the amount of 25,000 Euros for the development of socio-cultural activities that promote interculturality as well as the integration of immigrants from third countries.

This awarded amount will be processed under the financial allocation integrated in the investment plan of the Regional Directorate for Communities (DRC) in accordance with the provisions of the collaboration protocol signed between the DRC and Cresaçor-CCAI.

In an ordinance published in the Official Journal on Tuesday, the Regional Secretary of the Presidency, André Bradford, justifies this support, considering that “it is of common interest for the Autonomous Region of the Azores, the dissemination of their cultural values amongst immigrants” as well as helping “their integration in the host society.”

André Bradford also advocated that the Autonomous Region of the Azores “has welcomed a large number of foreign citizens in recent years, adding that the areas of intervention regarding the integration of these immigrants at various levels.”

Therefore, it is important “to provide assistance to immigrant citizens from third countries in situations of verified economic difficulties, particularly in the current context of economic crisis,” stated the Regional Secretary.
