Regional Government supports Santa Casa da Misericórdia and modernises computer network of Mouzinho da Silveira School on Corvo Island

The Regional Government will support the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Corvo (social solidarity institution) by allocating 9,500 Euros for the acquisition of materials to be installed in the Elderly Social Centre, revealed by the Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs.

"This Social Centre is attended by 22 elderly people. The Regional Government believes it must continue the path of entrepreneurship with institutions in the effort to improve infrastructures available for this age group throughout the Region," noted Berto Messias. He spoke at the presentation of the Press Release from the Council of the Government that met in the context of the statutory visit to Corvo.

In regard to education, the Government has also decided to modernise the computer network of Mouzinho da Silveira Basic Education and Secondary School, "an estimated investment of about 30 thousand Euros," said Berto Messias.

The Regional Secretary also stated that the Regional Government will sign an ARAAL contract with the Town Council in order to "support the project for the promotion of "Corvo Moving," a project aimed at the entire population of the population of the island. The Government will allocate 20 thousand Euros to this initiative.

Moreover, the Government has also decided to move forward with the project for the stabilisation of cliff adjacent to Vila do Corvo and the cliff located in the Boqueirão area. It represents the compliance with "the monitoring and intervention policies for coastal protection that are currently under way throughout the Region, always safeguarding the safety of people and goods as main priority."

The Regional Secretary stated that the Government will "support Corvo Agricultural Cooperative with a financial contribution amounting to 14 thousand Euros" for the management of farms.

According to Berto Messias, this cooperative "plays an important role in supporting the economic, technical and specialised management of Corvo's farms" and, therefore, "it is essential to ensure that it continues playing this role."

Also in the sector, Lacticorvo will also be supported with an allocation of 20 thousand Euros for the "promotion of Corvo's traditional cheese in order to guarantee the sustainability and development of local milk and cheese production," said the government official.

The redevelopment and expansion of water supply networks on Corvo Island, the acquisition of agricultural tools, the training on integrated rodent control, the training course on the Application of Plant Protection Products, the acquisition of an electric vehicle for the local Environment Service and the support to youth associations based on Corvo Island were other matters under consideration by the Regional Government.
