Berto Messias praises "important work" of scouts in civic training of young Azoreans

The Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs highlighted on Faial Island the "extraordinary role and important work carried out by scouts in the civic training of Azorean youth."

"For many years, scouts have made a very important contribution to a better educated, better prepared and more willing Azorean youth to actively participate in community life," said Berto Messias. He spoke Friday at the opening of JAMBOREE regional camp, an event sponsored by the Government of the Azores.

Berto Messias pointed out that the Government of the Azores "chose as one of the priorities in youth policies for this term the increase of civic participation and we believe that this institution is a fundamental partner for us to achieve this goal."

For the government official, "the better our Region, the better the training rates of our young people, not only the training acquired in a classroom but also the civic training acquired in the involvement in the living forces of our community and, in this context, scout have played an exemplary role."

"We know that the support to scouts is a very useful support. We will, therefore, pay great attention to your activity and to your needs and concerns, so that you can continue carrying out this important effort of training and preparing better men and women for the future," said Berto Messias.
