Regional Government promotes youth volunteering at Walk & Talk Festival

The Government of the Azores will promote youth volunteering at the Walk & Talk Festival, which takes place on the island of São Miguel between July 5 and 20, said the Regional Director for Youth.

Speaking at the end of a meeting with Sofia Carolina Botelho, on the Festival Art's Director, added that the youth volunteer platform "You Make the Difference," promoted by the Regional Directorate for Youth, will include the festival, namely the "knowledge Programme."

"The "Knowledge Program" is one of the pillars of Walk & Talk. It encompasses activities that, in some way, stimulate the production of knowledge through active participation activities and, sometimes, non-formal educational moments," said Lucio Rodrigues. The government official added that this programme "promotes practical and theoretical activities based on the presence of the festival's creators and participants," such as open classes, masterclasses, workshops, conferences, laboratories, workshops and guided tours.

For the Regional Director, this programme "continues the investment of Walk & Talk in the axes of thought, reflection and debate," thus giving shape to a "project aimed at involving audiences of different age groups and backgrounds, who will have the possibility of complementing and substantiating the artistic creation of the festival."

"The Walk & Talk volunteer programme falls within the 'Knowledge Programme' because we believe it is a way of acquiring valid skills for a professional, social and personal future," said Lúcio Rodrigues.

The ninth edition of the Walk & Talk Festival will take place from on the island of São Miguel between July 5 and 20. It will feature than fifty artists, groups and curators, presenting dozens of innovative projects that move across several areas, such as art, dance, performance, architecture, design, cinema and music.

A new temporary pavilion will also be built under the "Artworks & GA Studio" project.

The programme will be developed within the "Art Routes" that stretch over various locations on the island that will be the venues of artistic residencies, exhibitions, shows, concerts, talks, initiatives dedicated to knowledge and parallel events.
