Quality of LABJOVEM works ensures projection of contemporary Azorean culture

 
The Regional Director for Youth, Pilar Damião stressed in Ponta Delgada that the future of Azorean culture is guaranteed by the high quality and contemporary nature of the works presented under the Labjovem Competition - Young Creators of the Azores.
 
Pilar Damião spoke Friday at the opening of the 5th LABJOVEM Exhibition. She pointed out that "with this new generation of artists, which make us proud, we know that the cultural production of young Azoreans has already surpassed the regional and national reality and, in a month, it will reach the international territory with the participation of the LABJOVEM Exhibition in the world's largest arts festival - the Edinburgh Fringe Festival."
 
For the Regional Director for Youth, the "field of artistic creation is, by definition, open and multi-disciplinary; it is never still in space and time."
 
In this regard, she stressed that LABJOVEM is "an investment in the revival of artistic fields from new perspectives and new ways of making art."
 
The LABJOVEM competition - Young Creators of the Azores is a project developed by the Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for Youth in partnership with "Burra de Milho" Association. It aims to encourage and promote young artists from different artistic areas, serving as a platform for a new generation of Azorean artists.
 
This year, for the first time, the winner of each area in competition will have the opportunity to participate in the 2016 Exhibition in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to take place in Scotland from August 26 to September 1.
 
After Edinburgh, the LABJOVEM exhibition will be will be presented in Lisbon and may be visited between October 1 and 30 at LX Factory.
 
The exhibition's itinerary ends on the island of Terceira, where it will be open to the public during the month of November.
 
The 5th LABJOVEM exhibition features 27 works selected in the areas of Architecture, Fine Arts, Ceramic Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Illustration and Comics, Literature, Music and Video.
 
The opening of this edition features the performance of the 1st classified in Music, Rubeshe Santos, with the “De Linha em Linha” project.
 
The LABJOVEM exhibition is open to the public at Address of Writing - Armando Cortês-Rodrigues House in Ponta Delgada until July 22.
