Government promotes contest "Outermost Regions: the projection of Europe in the world"

The Government of the Azores promotes a multimedia contest designated as "Outermost Regions: the projection of Europe in the world" until April 13. This initiative is targeted at students attending regional secondary and vocational training schools.

This project is part of the Azores Presidency of the Conference of Outermost Regions and participation is open to all youngsters, up to the age 20, who are attending secondary schools (including junior high school students from Corvo Basic Education School) and vocational training schools. Participating teams are made up by three students and a teacher in charge.

Students must submit original works in any media format (audio and/or image) with a maximum duration of 3 minutes. The contest is divided into two phases: the first where all teams will compete at an Island level and the second where the nine selected teams will compete - each team representing a different island.

The winning team will win a trip to Brussels - including visits to EU institutions and the nine finalist teams will be selected to participate in the programme of the Celebrations of Europe Day. In addition, prizes will be awarded to the best multimedia work as well as to the second and third place.

With this initiative, the Government of the Azores aims to encouraging the students' interest and participation in activities and issues related to the European Union, promoting in 2012 the reflection on Outermost Regions.

In order to stimulate students' creativity and the use of new audiovisual and communication means, the celebrations of Europe Day, after taking place on Faial, Terceira, Graciosa and Flores, will be held on the island of São Miguel this year.

The works should be submitted to the Cabinet of the Regional Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation (Conceição Palace, 9504-509 Ponta Delgada) or to the email address [email protected] until April 13.

The rules and further information on the contest "Outermost Regions: the projection of Europe in the world" were sent to all regional secondary and vocational training schools and is also available on the following website: http://www.azores.gov.pt/Portal/pt/entidades/srp-ssraece/textoImagem/Dia+da+Europa+2012.htm
