Azores Fair disseminates inventive and innovative capacity of youngsters

“The Azores Fair: Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Creativity (Mostra Açores: Inovação, Empreendedorismo e Criatividade) which will develop a comprehensive programme in the next two days demonstrates the inventive and innovative capacity of our youth, the quality of some business projects in the Azores as well as the science and research activities carried out in our Region.” Bruno Pacheco, Regional Director for Youth, spoke yesterday on behalf of the Secretary of the Presidency at the opening session of the Azores Fair that is taking place at the Teatro Micaelense in Ponta Delgada.

Safeguarding that the Azores Fair “does not include all the best that has been done in the various sectors of the Azorean society, which deserves to be shown as a motivating example and an evidence of our own capacities,” the Regional Director for Youth stressed that this event is “a sign of positivism, encouragement and also pride in our vocational training, in our businesses and businesspeople, not to mention the scientific activity developed by the University of the Azores.”

Bruno Pacheco emphasised the importance of the Azores Fair which, according to him, is “a favourable moment to analyse and debate on innovation and entrepreneurship in the Azores, taking into account the social and economic development, sustainable growth and the moment of recognition of the progress occurred in some sectors.”

“This Fair is the last event of the Regional Programme to celebrate the European Year of Creativity and Innovation, launched by the Secretary of the Presidency last February.

We have promoted several events and initiatives throughout the year as we have sought to use the European Year as a driving force of internal debate and external tool to promote the Azores,” stated the Regional Director for Youth, adding that “from the economy to culture, science, youth and gastronomy we have encouraged the exhibition of examples that deserve internal and external recognition. Moreover, we have encouraged the exchange of experiences with others in order to enhance the innovative and creative potential of our Region.”

“We are confident that, despite the fact that the theme of the European Year will change in 2010, this effort to promote innovation and creativity has been well perceived by everyone, being pursued as a common goal of our society to create synergies between research, knowledge, training, citizens and companies so that we may be able to better adapt to a world of that is rapidly changing at a social and technological level and; therefore, we may benefit from it,” he said The Regional Director.
