Government promotes contest “Holding hands with the Forest”

In the context of the celebration of the “World Forest Day,” the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry is promoting several entertainment and educational activities addressed at 900 Junior Cycle students of Terceira Island at the at the Paul Environmental Park in Praia da Vitória on March 22, with the purpose of raising the awareness of the school community for the issues related with the Azorean Forest.

The 3rd Edition of the Contest “Holding hands with the Forest” (De mãos dadas com a Floresta), under the theme “Our Forest is a treasure that we must take care of in order to maintain its charm and magic, turning our planet into a better world” is also integrated in the celebration programme.

The photography contest will be open to all elementary school levels from Terceira Island and the teams have to be, totally or partially, composed by 4th form students.

The celebrations of the “World Forest Day” will close with a visit to the exhibition of the works submitted to the contest and with the awarding of prizes to the best projects. All participants were offered a book and DVD titled “Matinhas and the Azorean Forest.”
