The Government of the Azores is developing a joint effort with pineapple producers to boost the pineapple production by improving its quality and promoting it product in the proximity markets.
This was one of the issues under analysis between the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry and the board of Profrutos that was held on Wednesday. The need to increasingly promote the diversification of production, such as passion fruit, custard apple and the current banana production was another issued under discussion at the meeting.
The Cooperative also demonstrated its intention to implement some innovations in the marketing of their products through the renewal of the image, the establishment of distribution partnerships and the development of promotional activities in compliance with the “Plan to Improve the Pineapple Production in the Azores.”
This plan also aims to improve the quality of the product through applied research on the production methods and the implementation of the monitoring system.
The meeting also included the presentation of a project that aims to create a composting facility which will apply for Community support. This is a two-million Euro investment to support the pineapple production in the Azores.
