Government assured 20 million Euros to reinforce the competiveness of dairy farms
The Government of the Azores assured a sum of 20 million Euros from the European Commission to reinforce the competitiveness of the Regional dairy farms, following the joint work developed by the Regional Government and by the National Government.
This information was provided by the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry, who accompanied the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Jaime Silva, during a meeting of the Council of EU Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries that was held in Luxemburg.
Some obstacles regarding regulations were overcome at this meeting. Noé Rodrigues stressed “the strong commitment of the Minister of Agriculture on this matter,” so that the funds could be awarded with positive discrimination for the Azorean agriculture.
According to Noé Rodrigues, “at this meeting the majority of the State Members reflected upon the need of reinforcing concepts for a stronger CAP that will prevail beyond 2013 in accordance to the Azorean interests.”
The Regional Secretary will now meet the producers’ organisations to consolidate the application programme of these 20 million Euros for the dairy sector.
