Government allows use of the symbol of certified quality in the banana of the Azores
The Government of the Azores considers that the use of the symbol of certified quality may be able to constitute the next step in the current process of recuperation of the culture of banana in the Region.
But because the safeguard of the guaranteed traditional specialties of the agricultural produce isn’t done by mere administrative way, the Executive will only advance with initiatives in this way if such is the will of its producers; it guarantees the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry in reply to a parliamentary petition about the certification of the Azorean products.
In the perspective of the Government of Carlos César, the production of banana in the Azores won a new spirit with the establishment, recently, of a Community aid of 60 cents per kilogram of marketed fruit.
The value of the prize, possible thanks to the amount of the financial envelope negotiated with Brussels, contrasts with the aids paid in the last years, contributing “certainly to the recuperation of the culture”, it considers the Executive.
