The meat produced in the Azores, from grassland farming, has distinctive features that may promote it at a time when markets are becoming increasingly more demanding and in which the reduced dimension of regional production may be compensated for the quality of its products.

The information was released by a study commissioned by the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry to INOVA (Institute of Technological Innovation of the Azores) which was developed in collaboration the National Institute of Biological Resources (INRB); the study was presented in Ponta Delgada on Monday.

Regarding the results now released, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry stressed the importance of this document for the differentiation of Azorean meat," allowing its promotion in markets and the development of consumer loyalty."

According to Noé Rodrigues, this study allows producers and market agents to establish their own marketing strategies and display the main features of Azorean meat on the product label, which also enhances the agricultural work carried out in the Azores.

The study conducted to establish the features of meat produced in the Azores will be now extended to beef cattle breeding.
