Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry

Logo from Secretaria Regional da Agricultura
Welcome to the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry!

In the pursuit of the objectives set out in the action programme of the 10th Regional Government of the Azores for the agro-forestry sector, we have created a functional structure that, in a spirit of liaison and cooperation, aims to further the effectiveness of the services toward the development and economic and social growth of the sector.

We aim to add policy measures to this sector, which is centrally important and contributes to strengthening the economy of the Azores and its sustainability, which foster the development of agriculture and the vast area of forestry resources existing in the region, underlining the importance of Community Affairs concerning agriculture in our integrated process of economic growth.

Guided by objectives providing stimuli to the region's economy and the expansion of our economic base and its sustainability, issues concerning agricultural planning and agricultural markets are of particular significance. There is, on one hand, the need to continue improving and developing the agricultural road network, water supply to fields and the electrification of farms, as a contribution to driving yields, quality and competitiveness; while on the other hand, the modernisation and capacity building of the transformation units, of slaughter and marketing structures, as well as the certification of products of agricultural origin, in a broad process aiming to valorise and give a good name to the differentiation and quality of that which we produce, in respect for good agricultural practices and for the environment.

We propose, with the purpose of providing the broadest and most exhaustive dissemination of the different areas of intervention of this Regional Secretariat, the dissemination of all instruments, legal and others, that provide all those working in the sector with the best information in order to ensure that they use all the subsidies and incentives that are available.

We leave you, with hope and confidence that the socioeconomic conditions of the people of the Azores will continue to improve, with the challenge to keep on reading this page at regular intervals, knowing that this act will result in greater empathy for the sector and better benefits for its professionals.

Finally, since we want to serve the Azores, we are always open to receiving your comments and suggestions, certain as we are that your participation will strengthen our autonomy and provide prestige to the land we have chosen to live in.
