The Regional Secretary for the Environment and the Sea visited two works on Graciosa today that he considers to be “important and with a certain dimension.”
The protection of the seashore and the renewal of the beach area in Carapacho, a complementary work to the recent renewal of the thermal baths in that area, was one of the two works.
Explaining the reason why the work had to take place in the summer, the Secretary announced that “the work is being carried out at a good pace, so we hope that the intervention will be concluded by the end of this summer.”
“Fortunately, we were able to count upon the users’ understanding,” despite not being able to use this space this year, but the outcome of the intervention will be “a great improvement regarding the safety and the quality of beach are in Carapacho,” underlined Álamo Meneses.
The construction of the Visit Centre of the Furna do Enxofre (Sulphur Lava Cave) is almost completed and was the other work visited by the Regional Secretary, an intervention that “will bring another visibility and quality” to this important natural site.
The Centre, about to be completed, “in addition to the issues of safety and environmental control in the cave, with the monitoring of possible dangerous gases for its visitors, will enable the creation of a permanent exhibition that explains the origin and the importance of the Furna do Enxofre,” emphasised Álamo Meneses.
