The Secretary for the Environment and the Sea met today with the heads of Pico’s Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), whose intervention area is related to the environment. This meeting was intended to analyse the policies which are being followed by the Government regarding the areas of biodiversity preservation and waste management on the Island.
At the meeting, Álamo Meneses mainly addressed the Government’s plans for the creation of a Natural Park on Pico Island and the construction project for a sorting centre and for waste transference.
The Secretary for the Environment and the Sea also visited the works, which are about to be completed, of the road to Farol, in the village of Prainha, in the municipality of São Roque do Pico.
The 260 thousand Euros investment intends to protect the coastal strip and the houses which are located in that area and that are frequently lashed by the sea.
Álamo Meneses said that this intervention will be completed within a month, adding that the Government intends to add another work phase in a contiguous area to grant Prainha dwellers and visitors better safety conditions.
