The Pico Ecoteca promotes on Sunday, in the Town of Lajes do Pico, the first edition of the AmbiEcos, an initiative that will take as a central theme the routes and migrations of sea birds.
During the morning, the program of activities is developed in the Preparatory and Secondary School of Lajes do Pico, where there will have place the presentation of the CoastWatch 2008/2009 campaign - “A glance on the biodiversity” (10.30 o’clock) and a lecture on “Sea birds of the Azores - routes and migrations” (11.30 o’clock).
In the afternoon, already in the Special Protection Zone (ZPE) of Lajes do Pico, activities of observation of birds will be carried out, at 12 o’clock, and of the sea biodiversity, at 14 o’clock.
The initiative is inserted in the Coastwatch, a project of European extent that reckons with the volunteers' participation in the environmental characterization of the coastal shore.
This methodology is developed with the collaboration of schools, scouts, by NGO’s, autarchies and other interested entities, being the national co-ordination in charge of the GEOTA – Grupo de Estudos de Ordenamento do Território e Ambiente.
