Government prepares system for the analysis and dissemination of indicators on the Environmental Status
The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and the Sea is developing a technological platform that aims to ensure the permanent analysis of all relevant data for assessing the Environment Status in the Azores.
The project is being developed by the Regional Directorate for Land Planning and Water Resources and includes statistical analysis tools deemed necessary for processing geographic and alphanumeric data stored in the databases of the Environmental and Marine Geographic Information Centre. In this context, the Government aims to develop a broad set of indicators in the field of nature preservation, spatial planning, water resources, climate change and energy in order to assure a continuous updated system on Environment Status.
The technological platform, whose completion is estimated for next October, will include a specific module for the dissemination all information on the Internet. This measure follows the publication of the Regional Information System on Waste, the Regional Territorial Information System and the Regional Information on Water, being another step to bring the Azorean citizens closer to the environmental reality of the Azores.
