Educational community of Lajes do Pico participated in the cleaning of coastal area
Nearly 220 volunteers, including students, teachers and local authorities participated in the Clean Portugal/Clean Lajes do Pico campaign, held at Maré on Friday, which resulted in the collection of nearly one tonne of garbage.
Equipped with gloves and plastic bags, the volunteers started the activity by 9 AM, divided into various groups, and carefully swept the whole protected area of Maré, a unique place on Pico in terms of biodiversity.
Based on the national project “Clean Portugal,” the municipality of Lajes do Pico has decided to organise the “Clean the Lajes do Pico” campaign, appealing to the participation of the entire community.
Although the initiative is only scheduled for Saturday, the school has already contributed to this cause which to raise awareness and promote environmental education.
For the President the School Board of the Lajes do Pico Secondary and Basic Education School, Olga Pacheco, it makes sense to the association to join this initiative, as the school has an ongoing educational project in this act of cleansing, as the school have an ongoing educational project titled “An engaged citizenship.”
