Cory's Shearwater

Ecoteca of Lagoa promotes activities included in the Cory’s Shearwater SOS Campaign

The Ecoteca of Lagoa, service of the Azores Volcanologic and Geothermic Observatory, promotes since Wednesday and during next two weeks several activities included in the Cory’s Shearwater SOS Campaign.

The planned activities are meant for moving the population for the problem of the conservation of the sort, which in this time of the year is especially vulnerable, namely the young Cory’s Shearwaters.

The Ecoteca, which reckons with the support of the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and the Sea, is still going to promote, in several schools of the Council of Lagoa and of Povoação, several informative sessions on the life cycle and techniques of rescue of the sort “Calonectris diomedea borealis” (Cory’s Shearwater).

On the 6th, 7th and 8th of November there will be open to the public, in the Ecoteca of Lagoa, the photographic exhibition “A Madrugada das Cagarras” (“The Dawn of the Cory’s Shearwater”), by Paulo Henrique Silva.

In parallel, rescue brigades of the sort will happen.

Everyone who is interested in participating in these brigades will have to appear at 20 o’clock in the Ecoteca of Lagoa, situated in Avenida Vulcanológica nº3, Atalhada.
