The Ponta Delgada Ecotec will join the celebrations of Children’s Day on June 2 by installing a track to display solar cars. The track will be located on the North side of the Igreja Matriz (Mother Church).
The activity intends to mobilise children and youngsters from the 5th to the 9th form, organised in groups of four under the guidance of a teacher, for the challenge of building a solar car from reusable materials. This completion is supported by the Ecotec administered by the Amigos dos Açores Ecological Association, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and the Sea and by the Energy and Environment Agency of the Azores.
A special prize will be awarded to the fastest solar car.
By promoting this activity, integrated in the municipal agenda to commemorate the Children’s Day, the Ponta Delgada Ecotec intends “to create an inspiring space for exchanging ideas, searching and sharing its solutions, so that the participants may have the opportunity of exploring, side by side, solar energy, its advantages and uses.”
