During another week dedicated to the Sea, the programme of “Açores Entre-Mares” (Azores Between Seas) includes a series of school activities under the theme “School goes to the Sea.” These activities will mainly take place at the schools classified as Eco-Schools (awarded with the green flag).
Over the next few days, students from various islands will go on trips to the coast where they will be able to observe and register coastal biodiversity, make a virtual trip to the bottom of the Azorean Sea using the CIMV tool or participate in educational games, information sessions, field trips and experimental activities. All these activities will provide youngsters with the opportunity to find new possibilities for the sea.
The programme boosted by the Regional Government for this period also offers very interesting proposals for the general population, such as diving baptisms, tours, nautical events, exhibitions and even the opportunity to participate in underwater cleanups or, for those who prefer to stay ashore, in shoreline cleanups.
Several entities across the archipelago have joined the programme of “Açores Entre-Mares” with the organisation of high-quality activities. By May 28, 50 activities had been carried out with a total of 1557 participants. There is a stark contrast in these activities; the small workshops have registered a reduced number of participants whilst the activities such as the exhibition of films, the presentation of school works and contests on marine themes have registered an increased number of participants.
Another 50 activities will be held until the World Oceans Day on June 8. For more information on the activities taking place on your island, consult the programme of “Açores Entre-Mares” which is available at http://www.azores.gov.pt/.
