The Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre opens to the public an exhibition titled "Geo-environmental Landscapes of the Azores” (Paisagens Geoambientais dos Açores) during the month of July.
Organised by the Friends of the Azores (Amigos dos Açores) Ecological Association, this exhibition consists in a photographic work composed by 27 panels that approach geological aspects of the Azorean landscape from Corvo Island to the Formigas Islets. These panels were created by eight members of the aforementioned association.
This event is one of the nine initiatives that have already been developed by the socio-educational service of the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre during the current year, an entity of the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and the Sea.
With 11 months of operation, the Interpretation Centre has welcomed more than 16 thousand visitors, from which 1,100 were organised in school visits from the Archipelago (80%) and from Mainland Portugal (20%), whilst 600 correspond to groups composed by children and youngsters.
"Holidays in Eruption” (Férias em Erupção), experimental activity workshops on the water theme, addressed at children on school holidays, will take place at the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre during the month of July.
This Centre has started its summer schedule in June, being opened during 9 hours per day with an average of over 150 visitors per day.
