Regional Oenology Laboratory promotes awareness-raising action wine analysis

The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry, through the Regional Directorate for Agriculture, through the Regional Oenology Laboratory, will hold a free awareness-raising campaign on the analysis of wines at "Wine in Azores 2018."

The initiative will be held under the title "Why is wine analysed in laboratory?" and is addressed at wine producers, future producers and the population in general with the aim of disseminating, in a simple and direct manner, the analytical tests carried out at the Regional Oenology Laboratory on Pico Island.
 
The session will be conducted by Ana Romão, oenologist at the Regional Oenology Laboratory, will also address the legal matters stipulated in Community regulations regarding the characteristics and parameters that should be analysed in wine production.
 
This awareness-raising action falls within the annual plan for the dissemination of knowledge among wine producers and the public in general. It will take place at São Miguel Agricultural Association in Santana, municipality of Ribeira Grande.
 
The Regional Oenology Laboratory, which has been operating since 1993, has currently 15 accredited analyses, including alcohol content, PH and volatile acidity.
 
Four entities under the administration of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry will be represented at "Wine in Azores 2018", which runs between October 19 and 21 at the pavilion of São Miguel Exhibition Park, namely the Regional Oenology Laboratory, the São Miguel Agrarian Development Service, the Regional Directorate for Rural Development and the Regional Wine Commission of the Azores (CVR). 
 
Currently, the Azores have 38 brands of certified wine, numerous individual producers, three identified wine areas, including Biscoitos (Terceira Island), Graciosa and Pico, and the Protected Geographical Indication designation for quality white and red wines.
