The X Government of the Azores, the fourth one led by Carlos César, is sworn this afternoon, in Horta, for a mandate that lasts till the Fall of 2012.
The solemn ceremony of the investiture of the new Executive, whose composition appears in the sequence of the results of the elections of the 19th October, takes place before the Regional Legislative Assembly, which happens for the second time in 32 years of Constitutional Autonomy.
The first eight regional governments were sworn by the Minister of the Republic, post extinguished by the constitutional revision of 2004 (Constitutional Law 1/2004, of the 24th July).
As from there, the Regional Government, which is the superior political and management organ of superintendence of the regional administration, started to take office before the Legislative Assembly, which happened for the first time on the 16th November 2004, with the IX Government.
With the extinction of the post of Minister of the Republic, the competence of nomination of the president of the Government went for the competence of the representative of the Republic, post occupied for the first time in the Azores in March 2006.
Until now, each legislature in the Azores has been corresponding to a government, with the exception of the V Legislature (1992-1996), during which the Region knew two – the V Government (1992-1995) and the VI Government (1995-1996).
