Vasco Cordeiro participated in the debate on migration at the international conference "Atlantic Dialogues"

The President of the Regional Government participated Wednesday in a debate on the issue of migration under the international conference "Atlantic Dialogues," which is taking place in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh.

On the occasion, Vasco Cordeiro reaffirmed the position already conveyed as President of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR). According to him, the refugee crisis in Europe also requires the involvement of the European leaders in the stabilisation of the countries of origin instead of the current policy that merely deals with the effects of these flows.

The President of the Government stressed, however, that many regions have been on the "front line" of action without sufficient means and often supporting the financial and technical responsibility to support immigrants and refugees as well as their integration in their territories and societies.

The "Atlantic Dialogues" conference brings together until Friday 250 policy-makers and leaders from North and South America, Africa, Europe and Asia.

Organised by the German Marshall Fund of the United States and the OCP Policy Centre of Morocco, the fifth edition of "Atlantic Dialogues" will focus on the theme “Strategies for the Atlantic in Transition."

As guest of this edition, Vasco Cordeiro participated in the panel on "Migration, Mobility and Long-term Challenges." It also included Fathallah Sijilmassi, Ambassador and Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Otaviano Canuto, Executive Director World Bank Group, and Andrés Rozental, diplomat and chairman of Rozental&Asociados consulting.

Founded in 1972, the German Marshall Fund of the United States is an institution for the promotion of transatlantic relations that encourages the exchange of ideas and cooperation between the United States and Europe. In turn, the OCP Policy Center is a "think tank" that works as an open discussion platform.
