The President of the Government visited today Água de Pau Basic Education School, municipality of Lagoa, where he stressed the importance of community and family involvement in the project implemented under ProSucesso with the aim of improving school success.
 
"In Água de Pau, there is a considerable involvement, not only on the part of the school and a group of governmental entities, but also on the part of Lagoa City Hall, "Casa do Povo” of Água de Pau and the Santiago Futebol Clube. This alliance represents the joint efforts undertaken towards school success, having already yield interesting results, as evidenced by the data on the 2016/2017 school year," said Vasco Cordeiro.
 
At this school, the President of the Government had the opportunity to visit several projects that are being developed within the Integrated Plan for the Promotion of School Success (ProSucesso), namely the French learning labs, activities on the responsible use of the Internet and the "External Class." Under this initiative, the school invites people outside the school community to give their testimony of life to students.
 
In addition, Vasco Cordeiro met with partners of the Community Intervention Project "Educational Success - School, Community, Family." It began in 2016/2017 in educational establishments located in the municipality of Lagoa, involving several entities. Currently, the project is being implemented in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo.
 
Speaking to journalists, the President of the Government also stated that the results already achieved under various ProSucesso projects are "encouraging and enthusiastic." Nevertheless, he warned that this is a long process, with a 10-year time horizon, posing a challenge of persistence to maintain this path towards the school success of Azorean students.
 
As for the Community Intervention Project in the Municipality of Lagoa designated as "Educational Success - School, Community, Family," Vasco Cordeiro highlighted the commitment of all the institutions involved which, in addition to developing different approaches, coordinate their work for the benefit of students.
 
In the 2016/17 school year, the Community Intervention Project was developed in the three school establishments in the municipality of Lagoa - Água de Pau Basic Education School, Lagoa Basic Education School and Lagoa Secondary School. There was an improvement in the average marks as well as a reduction in school failure and early dropout.
 
This project under implementation in the current school year in two school establishments in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo with the support of the local Town Hall (Ponta Garça Basic Education School and Vila Franca do Campo Basic Education and Secondary School).
 
After emphasising that it is still necessary to "do more and better" in education, the President of the Government added that the Azores have begun to show a recovery trend in this sector in recent years.
