Vasco Cordeiro guarantees "strategic priority" for housing support policies

The President of the Government highlighted today the significant amount of financial resources aimed to ensure the right to housing of the Azorean population. This strategic priority of the Government is shared with various entities, such as local authorities and private social solidarity institutions.

"In the last legislative term, we are talking about an investment of about 50 million Euros in various housing programmes available, such as the construction, purchase, rehousing, rental and home recovery programmes. These measures allowed us to support almost 4,000 families throughout Region," said Vasco Cordeiro.

Speaking at the signing of an ARAAL contract with Corvo Town Hall for the recovery of 16 houses in the village, the President of the Government assured that this investment in housing policies will be maintained, bearing in mind the right to decent housing.

"In this first year of this legislative term, this investment amounted to more than 10 million Euros, benefiting more than 2,600 Azorean families," said Vasco Cordeiro. In this area, the Government has shared this strategic priority with other entities, through partnerships with municipalities and Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS).

In this regard, the President of the Government pointed out that, in the context of collaboration with these entities, it was possible to establish some 100 agreements aimed at the recovery of degraded housing in the Region in the last legislative term.

On the second day of the Government's statutory visit to Corvo, Vasco Cordeiro emphasised that this housing policy also strengthen social and territorial cohesion among all islands.

"This statutory visit to Corvo is clearly carried out under the auspices of territorial cohesion," said Vasco Cordeiro. He pointed out the example of several investments: the expansion of Casa Port, the expansion of the Health Centre and the establishment of Physiotherapy services, the contract works for housing recovery, the energy sustainability project for Corvo, the ongoing works in "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" (social institution), and the construction of the new day nursery and kindergarten.
