Vasco Cordeiro expressed his "deep sorrow" over the death of Alberto Madruga da Costa
The President of the Government, Vasco Cordeiro, expressed his "deep sorrow" over the death of Alberto Romão Madruga da Costa, former President of the Legislative Assembly of the Azores and of the Regional Government. Vasco Cordeiro highlighted "his strong sense of mission, dignity and commitment while holding public offices as well as his political and public participation."
"At this time, it is important to remember the way how he carried out his duties and his commitment to them, which is evidenced in his strong sense of mission, dignity and profound dedication to the public cause in the Azores," said Vasco Cordeiro to reporters in Ponta Delgada.
Vasco Cordeiro expressed on his behalf and on behalf of the Regional Government his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Alberto Madruga da Costa. The President of the Government considered that "the Azores owe him much" for his dedication while holding important positions in the institutions and self-government bodies of the Region.
Elected member of the Regional Parliament for the constituency of Faial in the I, II, III, IV, V and VI Legislative periods, Madruga da Costa was also the President of the Legislative Assembly on three occasions: 1978-1979, 1991-1992 and 1992-1995.
He also held the position of Regional Secretary for Transport and Tourism of the I and II Regional Government.
In 1995, Madruga da Costa entered into office as President of the VI Regional Government, a position he held until 1996.
In June 1995, he was distinguished by the President of the Portuguese Republic with the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit.
On May 11, 2006, by unanimous decision of the Legislative Assembly of the Azores, Madruga da Costa was awarded the Autonomic Commendation of Value.
